Battle Simulator Fixed! Final Adjustments and More (Guardians of RPG v1.02 Update)

Hello everyone!

It's Monday which means it's time for another weekly devlog. This week felt better for me. I've made some headway in the video game project, and I believe work will become less stressful for me. In fact, I don't even have to come in to work today, which is another bonus that I am grateful for. These series of good news have put me in a good place somewhat and I want to use that newfound momentum to work on the game some more. So without further ado, let's jump into it.

Battle Simulator Completed

I have finally finished the battle simulator... well at least the basics of it. The battle simulator is capable of the following:

  • 1v1 - 3v3 battles
  • dynamically changing battle locations
  • dynamically adding characters to battle simulator for battle
  • starting and finishing battle through a series of stages
  • narrate and display sequences of events
  • display all character's health in engaging interesting way

There are still many more things that I would like to add to the battle simulator, such as the following:

  • Animation to moves, for rolling numbers, and player idle forms.
  • Roll Initiative feature
  • Roll to Block feature
  • Adding status conditions next to the character's HUD.

There are many other things I will need to test regarding the battle simulator before launch as well, such as when  a player is holding an item or not, what happens when a player is knocked out but their teammate is still alive,  and so on. Regardless of that, I think finishing up the basics of the battle simulator has given me the ability to officially test other aspects of my game in a way that I was unable to before, which is really exciting for me.

Next Steps

The next steps will be to add the battle simulator the game,  wherever it is needed.  In Tiro Town for example, you are able to fight people in 4 different locations, and in Toxic Trails you are able to fight people in 2 distinct locations. This means the battle simulator needs to be incorporated in at least 6 scenes, however many times per scene. I think the hardest part is behind me though, and I am confident that I can get this done.

Weekly Goals

Last week I told myself that I wanted to get the basics of the battle simulator done, and I am glad I finally met that goal. This week I want to finish implementing the battle simulator in all of the scenes that will use it for both Tiro Town and Toxic Trails.

Summary

After I finish implementing the battle simulator into the game along with additional quality of life changes, I will officially be ready to launch the demo for Guardians of RPG with Chapters 1 and 2 available. It almost doesn't even seem real at this point. When I first had the idea to make a video game, I had no idea that it would lead me to this path. When I see the work I put in for these past 6 months and look at the results from my last 6 months, I know that I have learned and improved a lot in creating video games, and I am so grateful for that. Sometimes all it takes is a matter of practice, putting yourself out there, and trying you best, which is all anyone can ever ask of us. I want to thank everyone who has been supporting me this far in this journey to create Guardians of RPG. Every view, comment, follow has meant so much especially these past couple weeks, and so yeah, I'll see you next week with another update.
