Unfortunate News (Guardians of RPG Update)
Hello everyone
Sorry I have been away for a week. I planned on uploading the latest version of Guardians of RPG for the month of July, but there have been some unfortunate circumstances that have lead to the game's delay.
I had finally fixed a lot of game-breaking bugs that did not allow me to drop the game last week, but when I build and ran the game via WebGL, new game breaking bugs appeared as a result of the files being compressed. Because the files were not compressed correctly, I was unable to gather the important files from the resource folder that was necessary to play the game. I didn't know that was the issue at the time, and instead I believed that I needed to use a updated unity editor and rebuild the game from the updated version.
That was a mistake.
What ended up happening is that the updated version was unable to support the packages that was in my game, and when I tried to open the game using the original editor I was using, the packages were un-locatable. I thought resetting to the default would help, but instead it just reset the game to its original settings. At this point there are too many things that I do not know how to fix with my current game, and I am unmotivated to do so.
Looking back on it, I should have made sure that I had a back-up file, that I understood what I was doing first before I tried a solution, and that I was more familiar with Unity in the first place. Honestly I am more frustrated than anything. This was over a years work in the making, and after this version I was going to have a project that I could continue to dynamically iterate on. I was also planning on taking a short break after working on the game for over a year straight. Now it feels like I have lost so much progress and I'm honestly quite discouraged.
But this isn't the end. Just because I lost a year's worth of progress doesn't mean I lost a year's worth of experience. I can rebuild. It will take more time. It will take more motivation. It will be annoying. But I want to do it. Guardians of RPG is a project that I wanted to do for a while and I don't want to stop now. Not like this. So thank you to everyone who has been supporting me up until this point. I will see you all next week.
