Guardians of RPG News (Post Hiatus) pt 4

Hello everyone!

It's Monday, which means it's time for our weekly devlog! I've been talking with a friend of mine regarding my break from making games and the conversation lead to an interesting question: Do you need to be a connoisseur of a product or genre in order to contribute to/impact that space? For example,  does one need to be a video games fanatic in order to become a game developer? Does one need to be a movie buff in order to be a director?

Here's what I think:

The general idea is: someone who is passionate about a particular space or a particular medium will be more passionate relatively speaking about contributing to said space.  Maybe in there passion they end up revitalizing, or revolutionizing their field.  In gaming, one could even make the argument that is due to the lack of passion and experience that results in mediocre products bring pushed out every year,  such as gotcha games that spends more time trying to get you to spend money than to have fun. And I agree: the more passionate you are, the more effort you'll put in your projects. My thing is, do you really need to be passionate about the medium itself to the point of being a fanatic?

You see, I do love video games, comics, anime, and more, and one day I want to be able to do all of this for a living. However, I'm not an avid comic book reader, or keep up with the latest titles, or even watch all the new anime that comes out (though I am known to occasionally binge a season of some of my favorite shows from time to time).  I guess my question to you would be: does that now make me unqualified to tell my story?

I may not be passionate about video games as Mark Brown from the Game Makers Toolkit, or can watch and analyze anime like Garnt Maneetapho from Gigguk, but I'm passionate about my stories, and I feel as long as I tell them well does it matter? Let me know what you all think if you have an opinion about this yourself.

Don't forget Guardians of RPG v1.02 is available now to play. I think I plan on working on the next chapter in another month or so. In the meantime I want to thank everyone who's been supporting me thus far. Your encouragement has been really helpful to me on my whole game development process and on my hiatus. With that or if the way, I will see you next week.
