Guardians of RPG v1.03


Hello everyone!

It's Monday which means it's time for another devlog! it has been a while since I have made one, but like I mentioned before, I have been working on other projects other than Guardians of RPG, projects that I hope I get to share with you all in the distant future. In the meantime though, I wanted to give you my updates for Guardians of RPG v1.03.

Well Needed Upgrade

After playing the game and looking over the reviews, I've concluded that Guardians of RPG deserves some well needed upgrades not just externally, but internally as well. These types of upgrades will include the following:

Dialogue System

The dialogue system is made to read data from txt files currently and display their contents through a UI HUD for the player to see. This was originally done to save data by having txt files be read instead of using the inspector to create or add a traditional dialogue system. While this method works flawlessly for Windows version of this game, for the WebGL version it created a unnecessary level of complexity that effected the overall gameplay by making the dialogue display speed slower.  In the future, I will be using a traditional dialogue system that will be handled in the inspector to ensure both Windows and WebGL versions run virtually the same.

Game Loop and Cut Scene Bugs

There are certain scenes in the game that repeat itself, or certain scenes that do not activate when it's supposed to and scenes that activate when it's not supposed to. This affects the game play loop and can confuse the player. As a result, this is a change that needs to take high priority as well.

Battle Simulator

The Battle Simulator (or the battle system) needs various updates and upgrades, such as:

  • The ability to use items on your allies
  • Interactive Combat Features:
    • Roll Initiative
    • Roll for Block
    • Enhance Moves
    • BINARY Vows
    • Include Status Conditions
  • Quality of Life Changes:
    • Animation for Rolling
    • Animations for Moves
    • Animations for Stat and Status Changes
    • Updated UI HUD for Characters

This will very challenging for me to do, but I considering battling will be one of the most important features in the game, I want to make sure that I include a lot of features that make it as exciting and engaging as possible.

UI Changes

I want to change the UI for the following as well:

  • Player Information
  • Inventory
  • Move Set
  • Quests
  • Options
  • And More!

I think updating the look, as well as fixing some of the bugs present will make using some of the features in the Settings and others more appealing and fun.

Music and SFX

While I love most of the music that I have in the game, some of the music have issues that need to be fixed, such as looping issues, and music transitions. In addition to this, I also want to add more music and sound effects to the game.

Quality of Life Changes

I want to update a few other details that aren't buggy but will improve the quality of the gaming experience:

  • Wild Encounter Feature
  • NPC Companion Feature Upgrade
  • New Sprites for Player and other Characters

Esoic City Chapter

If I can fix all of the above issues, I will want to try my hand working on the Esoic City Chapter. In this chapter you will learn more about the battle mechanics,  the BINARY Organization,  and about the world itself. In my opinion, Esoic City is when the plot of Guardians of RPG really starts to take place. I can't wait to bring it all to life for you all in the future update!
